West Holt Public Schools

West Students and staff participated in Alumni Day on Wednesday, October 8th. Teachers and Staff (PK-12) displayed a pennant or poster from the school they have a technical, associates, grad, undergrad or any degree from. This provided a chance to brag, tell stories and share with students their experiences when they were in college. It was a great way for students to hear about why it is important to get some sort of post-secondary training/education. Staff promoted all sorts of training – not just 4-year degrees. All training after high school – military, 2-year schools, 4-year schools, apprenticeships were promoted. Students were able to fill out a college trivia sheet to earn a candy bar - provided by the West Holt Booster Club. Questions included what their plans following high school were as well as various questions about college in general.

The sixth graders have been writing their “I Am From” poems! From family traditions to favorite memories, they captured the people, places, and moments that shape who they are. This is one of my favorite projects!

There will be a send-off for the girls golfers tomorrow, Fri, Oct 10th at 3:10 PM in the HS Gym. Good Luck to the girls golfers at State Golf next week!

Both Mrs. Roemer's and Mrs. Frickel's Kindergarteners had a blast on their field trip to Helgoth's Pumpkin Patch!

Seventh graders diligently working on some commissions and fees math problems. They are learning to solve some complicated situations.

DISTRICT CHAMPS! The girls golfers were district champs in Wayne today shooting a 365 team score! Golfers medaling were Ansley-8th, Brinley-4th, and Daleni was the individual district champion! The golfers will compete at the state tournament next Monday and Tuesday in North Platte.

The third graders have been working hard lately, practicing their multiplication facts. Today, they learned how to multiply by 5 by watching a video, then went to work on some fast facts!

The HS Volleyball team plays tonight in Atkinson beginning at 5:00 with C team. KNLV and KBRB will have the call on the radio for the Varsity games starting around 7:00. Also GOOD LUCK to the LADY GOLFERS today as they participate at the District Tournament.

I mistakenly put out information for today's JH VB game vs O'Neill as a 4:00 start, that is wrong we will START at 4:30.

The girls golfers had another great day winning the Centura Invite in Cairo yesterday. All 5 girls placed in the top 15! Ansley placed 15th, Hanna 12th, Sadie 10th, Brinley 5th, and Daleni dropped her school record score to a 75 for 1st place! To top things off, Hannah also threw in a hole-in-one on the par 3, 8th hole as well! It was a fun day for the girls! The girls will head to districts in Wayne this Tuesday.

Students in 9th Grade Physical Science completed an opening science project at the beginning of the school year. They were tasked with creating a golf hole that incorporated at least 2 scientific concepts. The goal of the project was to inspire creativity, present previous knowledge, and make real-life connections. The goal was achieved and by far exceeded Ms. Nemec's expectations! The class looks forward to future projects!

Ken Stenka, a local veteran, came to sixth grade to visit with the students about the American Flag. He talked about the significance of the flag and taught the sixth graders how to properly raise and lower the flag. Sixth graders raise and lower the flag daily.
