To kick off the school year, our 4th graders listened to The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson—a story about courage, celebrating differences, and discovering belonging.
Afterward, students worked in groups to uncover as many things they had in common as possible. From favorite foods to hobbies to family traditions, they realized they share more than they thought!
Using their “commonality cards,” each group took on a team-building challenge: building the tallest structure possible. The classroom was filled with laughter, teamwork, and creativity as students practiced communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
