We will be taking a 9th-12th grade Student Body Fan Bus to the Boys’ District Final Basketball game held at Grand Island Central Catholic High School tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5th. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM. We will dismiss students riding the bus at 2:45 PM and will plan on departing at 3:00 PM.
If your student wishes to ride the fan bus, we will need you to send them to school tomorrow with a signed note saying you give them permission to ride the bus. Turn the note into the office. If the bus exceeds its capacity, we will give preference to upperclassmen and those that turned in their permission notes early.
There are NO concessions at the game due to Ash Wednesday being observed at GICC. We ask that all students bring $5 and we will call ahead and order pizza to be picked up and eaten on the bus after the game. Students will want to bring something to drink and possibly a snack for the ride down.
We hope to have a loud and fun student section to cheer on our boys!
Reach out to Mr. Havranek via email if you have any questions. His email is codhavranek@westholt.org.

Due to Ash Wednesday there will be no concession stand available tomorrow night.

We are celebrating Read Across America March 3rd-7th. Read Across America is a week-long celebration of reading that takes place every March. The event was created to encourage children to read and celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday (March 2nd). Our very own Lucas Griess testified in front of the Nebraska Legislature's Appropriations Committee today to demonstrate support for the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Lucas did an amazing job of sharing his story and also sharing the benefits he has received from the Commission.
Great Job Lucas!!! West Holt is so proud of you and your courage to be an advocate for those who are blind or visually impaired. You are truly making a difference!

NSAA sent this out, if anyone is interested in nominating anyone from West Holt or Atkinson and need help doing so, please let me know. Thanks
The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) is excited to introduce the Above and Beyond program, a new initiative designed to celebrate the outstanding individuals who make a meaningful impact within their schools and communities. Whether it’s a dedicated student, a selfless coach, an inspiring parent, or a committed community member, this award recognizes those who go the extra mile to uplift and support others.
We need your help in finding and sharing these incredible stories from across the state. For example:
A community member who has taken tickets at every home football game for the past 30 years.
A student-athlete who organizes a fundraiser every year to raise money for the community.
A coach who not only builds champions on the field but also instills lifelong values in their athletes.
A bus driver who starts each morning with words of encouragement, ensuring students begin their day on a positive note.
These are the kinds of inspiring stories we want to highlight and celebrate. Selected recipients will be formally recognized by the NSAA, ensuring their dedication does not go unnoticed.
We invite you to nominate deserving individuals from your school community today! It’s a simple way to give recognition to those who embody dedication, service, and excellence. Nominations are open and won't close! We will begin honoring individuals in April.

Three teams of fifth and sixth grade students traveled to O'Neill to compete in their Elementary Quiz Bowl competition. This was the first time O'Neill had hosted an elementary quiz bowl event. It was lots of fun for the students, and they answered LOTS of questions.

Last Wednesday, we had the incredible honor of hosting the State FFA President in our classroom! Our students got the opportunity to learn about leadership, teamwork, career growth, and the impact of FFA beyond high school.
