4th graders have been busy traveling The Oregon Trail! Through hands - on activities and teamwork, students got to simulate what life was like for pioneers-making choices, facing challenges, and learning how tough the journey west really was!

UPDATE: JH BB will be in the main gym tomorrow starting with the B team at 4:00, followed by the A team. Then JHGBB will play O'Neill JV at 6:30 in. the main gym

West Holt Speech hosted its home speech meet on Saturday, February 7th. 290 entries from 18 schools were presented throughout the day. 65 judges shared their feedback to help carry students through the remainder of the season. The speech team thanks the West Holt staff, administration, custodians, and community judges for the use of the facilities and support. The Huskies placed forth. Individual event placings are below. District Champions-Allie Oligmueller (115), Felycia Kerkman (125), Madalyn Pistulka (130). 2nd place-Carleigh Jackson (235) 3rd place- Leah Pistulka (105), Sadie Keogh (110), Morgan Schaaf (145) 4th place- Shae Jackson (170) West Holt Girls are the District Champions for the second consecutive year!

Payton lost in a tough fought heartbreak match. What a great season for the freshman! Leah, Sadie, Morgan and Shae are headed to Omaha! Finals and 3/4 matches still to come 8 Lady Huskies qualified for State!

Allie, Felycia, Madalyn and Carleigh all punched their ticket to Omaha and made it to the finals. Payton, Leah, Sadie, Morgan and Shae are all in the heartbreak round. They gotta win one more to go. Maria lost in the consolations to finish her season. Great season Maria! Teams is still in the lead by 35+ points.

Wow! 🔥The West Holt Girls showed up! 9 of 11 girls will wrestle in semis tomorrow-Payton, Leah, Sadie, Allie, Felycia, Madalyn, Morgan, Shae, and Carleigh. Maria and KK will be in the wrestle backs first thing in the morning at 9:30. Everyone is still in the running to punch their ticket to state. Husky ladies also lead the pack in team scores at the end of day 1.

Every morning while in reading class, Mrs. Frickel's Kindergarten class does templates as a class. When it comes to learning about a new vocabulary word, we do pair share to help extend our knowledge. As a class we read the word, go over the definition and then get together with our partner to share our idea of the new vocabulary word. When the students are sharing with their partner, they have a starter sentence they use and then finish the sentence with their thought of the word. This activity helps students relate to the new vocabulary word and also hear different ideas from their partner. After all students have had enough time sharing with their partner, we come back together as a class and talk about what students shared with their partner.

We will be having a send off for our Boys State Duals Wrestling team tomorrow, Fri Feb 6th at 3:15 in the afternoon. We will be having the send-off in the main hallway. Teachers please have your students lining the hallway by 3:15 PM so we can send-off our state duals team!

UPDATE: On Tuesday the 10th there will be NO JV girls game. The JV boys will play 2 quarters starting at 5:00. The girls varsity game may start a little earlier. Thanks

The 3rd Graders in Mrs. Flannery's classroom along with help from the North Central District Health Department, became citizen scientists on January 29th. Through a presentation put on by the Health Department, the 3rd graders learned about ground water safety and quality. They learned about different potential contaminates commonly found in drinking water in the state of Nebraska. The 3rd graders were then invited to bring in a water sample from home to have it tested. Each sample was tested for nitrites, nitrates, and phosphates. The 3rd graders watched the test strips change color and then matched those results to a color scale to determine the levels in their water sample. They were eager to share their results with their classmates and families.
