West Holt now has a new phone system that will allow a dial by extension after hours, and voicemail will go to teachers emails as audio files. Please note the extension of each teacher has been added to the staff list on the website at https://www.westholtps.org/staff. West Holt Public Schools would like to welcome Miss Macy Brown of Taylor, Nebraska as our new 5th and 6th grade reading teacher! She graduated from Wayne State College in May after student teaching 5th and 6th grade in Walthill, NE. This will be her first year teaching, and she is so excited to meet all of the students! You can find her reading, playing and watching sports (especially volleyball), and spending time with family and friends in her free time.

Miss Makenzie Petersen will be joining us as a substitute and teaching choir. Originally from O'Neill, she graduated in 2021 from UNK with her Bachelors in English Education and then moved to Pittsburgh, PA to get her Masters in English Rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon University in 2022. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her two dogs. Welcome to West Holt Miss Petersen!
Welcome Home West Holt graduate Mr. Payton Williams! Mr. Williams will be teaching Elementary PE. He graduated from Wayne State College in 2022 and taught at Barr Middle School in Grand Island. He enjoys playing, watching, and coaching sports. He also enjoys working out and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Williams said, "I am excited to be back in Atkinson! I am looking forward to the opportunity to teach the young members of the next generation."

West Holt Public Schools would like to welcome Chadron native Ms. Katie Lewin as an Agriculture Education teacher! Ms. Lewin attended Chadron State College where she earned her degree in Agribusiness. After graduating, she moved to Kansas for a year, where she worked with the Farm Service Agency. She's excited to start her first year of teaching while working towards her certification and Master's degree. In her free time, Ms. Lewin enjoys spending time with her dog and horses, being outside, reading, cooking, and baking.
If you see our new preschool teacher, Miss Breann Sweeney, please welcome her to West Holt! Originally from Phillips, Nebraska, Miss Sweeney is a 2019 graduate of Wayne State College and comes to us after teaching several elementary grade levels on the Isanti Reservation. She enjoys kayaking, crafting, and all things Disney (Lifelong Winnie the Pooh fan). We're happy to have you as a Husky!
This week is conditioning week for fall sports. High School Cross Country will practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:45am. As a team we will discuss a schedule for the following week. Junior high is welcome to attend, but not required.

The final day of 7th-12th grade summer distance running conditioning will be Tuesday, July 30 at 7:00am.
Employment to begin in August. Applicants must have a high school diploma and meet one of the following criteria: 1) Associates Degree or higher, 2) completed 48 hours of college credits, or 3) be willing to obtain ESSA certification
Interview and selection process will begin as soon as possible.

On May 5th, 2024, West Holt Public School had the incredible opportunity to host esteemed attorney and digital citizenship expert, Bobby Truhe, thanks to the Atkinson Community Foundation Fund and a Youth Engagement Grant from a Nebraska Community Foundation anonymous donor.
Bobby delivered an engaging presentation on the importance of digital citizenship, emphasizing responsible technology use and the role it plays in society, politics, and government. Our students learned valuable skills to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to this Nebraska Community Foundation supporter for making this event possible. Your generosity is helping us equip our young community members with the tools they need to succeed in the digital age.
