Huskies Win

The West Holt boys team ended the regular season on a high note when they were able to wrestle a win from the visiting Santee Warriors.  Santee came in with a good squad.  They came in with a 13-3 record, a runner-up finish in the NVC to Elkhorn Valley, ranked #5 in power points and averaging 76 points per game.

The Huskies got off to a good start.  We were forcing tough shots and finishing defensive possessions with rebounds.  In the second quarter, Santee started hitting some of those shots.  They have excellent shooters and are led by one of the best players in the area, Austin Saul, who ended up with 23 points before fouling out.

We did a better job of controlling the tempo in the third quarter to slow the Warrior offense.  The guys did a good job of clock management down the stretch to preserve a 2 score lead to finish the game.

The seniors did a good job of leading the team in their last career home game.  Tyler Jelinek scored 10, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.  Ian Larson was 6/11 from the field for 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.  Weston Mathis added 5 points on a 3 and a nifty layup.  Lincoln Konrad notched another double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Zach Hooey added 11 points, 4 rebounds and Drake dropped 4 assists.  It was a good team effort.

The JV were edged (25-31) in a 2 quarter game to open the night.  Andrew Rentschler, Kellen Monasterio and Mason Crumrine scored 11, 10 and 4 respectively.

The Huskies will face another good challenge in our sub-district on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.  We open with Summerland (18-4) on Tuesday at Tilden.  Elkhorn Valley will play the winner of Monday's Osmond-Randolph vs Plainview game.
