West Holt Get Up-Close Experience with M-ATV (Mine Resistant, Ambush Protectant Tactical Vehicle)

Mrs. Rupert

November 03, 2022

SFC Jessie Arnold, with the Nebraska National Guard was at West Holt with a M-ATV (Mine Resistant, Ambush Protectant Tactical Vehicle).  The vehicle is used in military operations and just returned to Nebraska from a stay in Africa. Students K-12 were able to climb in and see it’s many features.  The vehicle can travel up to 65 mph, gets (on average) 6 mpg and is going to eventually replace military hummers.  SFC Arnold told the students about the cost of the vehicle ($480,000) as well as it’s purpose.

SFC Arnold’s visit ended with a career exploration program for the juniors of West Holt, who recently took the ASVAB test.  The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) scores were used to match students’ strengths with possible career options.  November is National Career Development Month.
