West Holt Takes 6th in Pierce Invitational

Coach Fetherston

September 10, 2022

On Saturday, September 10th, West Holt traveled to Pierce for their invitational that featured 13 teams. The schools were Columbus Scotus, O’Neill, Pierce, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Boone Central, West Holt, West Point-Beemer, Stanton, Norfolk Catholic, Crofton, Thurston County, and Elkhorn Valley. The day was beautiful and it brought some great scores. It was a very challenging and competitive playing field that had some of the best area players. The top three teams were Scotus, Pierce, and O’Neill who all tied for a total score of 379. Since these three teams tied, there was a team sudden death playoff. Scotus would end up winning over Pierce and O’Neill took third. West Holt finished in 6th place with a score of 430. This is the team’s second-best score of the season and continues to show the girls’ hard work. They continue to improve and have made a huge jump since 2021.

Individually, Catarina Ketteler led the team with her new career low of 91. She earned 7th in a very competitive field that West Holt will see again at districts in a few weeks. Abby Mathis shot a 104 and barely missed the top 15 medaling spots. She also has made a huge jump since last season and is looking to break the three-digit mark. Brianna Anderson shot a near low score of 113 with a huge comeback score of 52 on her back round. The team score was rounded out with Brooklynn Butterfield who shot a 122. Miya Carey shot a 161 to round out the team.

The golfers are going into the busy part of their season as their look forward to districts in just three weeks. The ladies will be at Albion this upcoming Saturday followed by a triangular on Monday, September 19th in Ainsworth.
