West Holt Takes 5th in Home Invitational

On Thursday, September 1st West Holt hosted their 23rd Husky Golf Invitational at Atkinson-Stuart Country Club. There were ten teams total and 47 golfers. The teams were O’Neill, Valentine, Pierce, Battle Creek, West Holt, Boone Central, Crofton, Ainsworth, and Elkhorn Valley. It was a tight team race for the top three teams. In the team competition, O’Neill edged out Valentine by only two strokes with a 399. Pierce wasn’t far behind in third with a team score of 412.
Individually, Kaylin Gaughenbaugh of O’Neill took medalist honors with an impressive score of 79. She won by eight strokes over Valentine’s Kaetryn Bancroft. West Holt Huskies were led by a pair of juniors. Catarina Ketteler struggled to a 56 on the front nine, but came back firing and shooting a 45 on the back for a total of 101. She earned 7th place. Fellow junior, Abby Mathis shot a 53-49 for a total of 102. She earned 8th and shot her first competitive score in the 40’s in her career. Brooklynn Butterfield shot a 120, Autumn Hoppe shot a 124, and the varsity was rounded out by a Miya Carey’s 139.
The JV team also competed at the invite and finished in 8th place as a team with a score of 516. Junior Brianna Anderson led the JV team with a score of 123. Aubrei Clouse shot a 137, Alyssa Dobias shot 139, Aleigha Ogden shot a 130, and Shaylee Campbell shot a 126.
The golfers will be on the road for the remainder of the season. They head to Ainsworth on September 8 for a 3:00 pm triangular. On September 10, they compete in Albion at the Boone Central Invitational and turnaround two days later for the Battle Creek Invitational.
