Huskies Now 2-1 in NVC
January 11, 2022
The Huskies hosted Summerland last Friday and came away with a hard-fought win to move their conference record to 2-0. The Bobcats came into the game with good wins over Plainview and North Central earlier in the week, so we knew they’d be playing with some confidence. We played a little zone in the first quarter to maybe gain a bit of advantage and we did run out to a 19-15 lead after one quarter. We got into a little foul trouble in the second quarter, but the guys responded well to hang in there to get to half-time without any more foul issues.
The game went back and forth in the second half until early in the fourth quarter when we knocked down a couple shots to go up enough to stall and shorten the game. We hit enough free throws in the last couple of minutes to come away with a victory.
The JV team got another victory by a score of 51-44 to get to a record of 6-1.

We then traveled to Tilden to take on the 7-2 Elkhorn Valley Falcons. Again, we had a solid start, got in a bit of foul trouble in the second quarter but got to half in good shape. We then took a lead and felt like we had control of the game in the third quarter. A change in defense by EV during the fourth was something we didn’t adapt to very well and let too many possessions end negatively for us. In other words, we needed to finish possessions better.
It was encouraging though that we played winning basketball for 3 quarters. We need to handle game situations better and that will help cut down the turnovers. In both games last week we averaged 20 turnovers and that’s too many wasted possessions.
There was no JV game.
