Huskies Win at Valentine
December 26, 2021
The West Holt boys basketball team evened up their record at 3-3 with a win over Valentine on the Monday before Christmas Break. The Huskies did a better job of finishing in the paint and defended the paint pretty well. We outscored the Badgers 34-10 in that area. It was also good to see 13 of our 23 baskets being assisted. The game started as we had hoped, creating turnovers and running the floor, we just didn’t put the ball in the hole until the last couple of minutes in the first. We scored on each possession of the last 2 minutes of the first to wrestle away a lead that we didn’t relinquish. We hit a few more shots in the second, got stagnant in the third, and closed out the fourth.
Individually, everyone who got in the game contributed in some way. Lincoln Konrad led the team in scoring with 18 while Tyler Jelinek dished out 4 assists. Jakeem Brown picked the Badgers for 5 steals while Ian Larson cleaned the glass for another 8 rebounds. Bryce Steinkraus didn’t have a career offensive night but had one of his better defensive nights, 4 defensive rebounds, 5 deflections, and 3 steals.
The JV also got a bounce-back win. Weston Mathis led the JV in scoring with 18 points.
