Huskies Host Ord and Burwell

Coach Hale

December 13, 2021

The Huskies dropped a couple of games last week to Ord and Burwell.  Both were home games.  The Huskies are still finding their strengths and weaknesses, but in each game we see growth in different areas.

The Ord team on Tuesday night was a good test.  The Chants have an athletic team, as evidenced by their football season.  They were in the C-2 semifinal and lost to eventual state champs, Archbishop Bergan.  Their ball skills were questionable, so we tried to press early on which did create a game total of 20 turnovers.  We just didn’t capitalize on enough of those early on and we got in an early hole. We made a run in the fourth quarter but came up short.  The defense ended up being a bright spot once we got organized.  We had 9 steals but only 2 points in transition, so we have to get better in transition.  A bright spot was our 14 offensive rebounds that led to 16-second chance points.  We will need to keep improving in that area.

Jakeem Brown and Lincoln Konrad led the team in scoring with 17 and 15 respectively.  Tyler Jelinek led the team with 9 rebounds to go with 3 steals.

The JV got a win over the Ord JV.  We started slowly to own a slim lead after 1 quarter 6-5 but opened up the lead with 22 points in the second quarter to lead at half-time 28-15.  The final was 44-26.  Zach Hooey led the JV in scoring with 11.  All of the players that suited up scored.

The Ainsworth game scheduled for Friday night was postponed due to road conditions, so the Huskies moved on to host Burwell on Saturday night.

Burwell is another athletic, physical team that plays a little bit of football.  They were in the semifinals of D1-8 man.  We did a much better job of executing the defensive game plan.  Burwell’s point guard ended up scoring late to get 20 points, but we held a team that had been averaging 66 points to 43.  We are getting better shots in the offense, we were just cold on this night.  We loved the defensive effort and hope to see that moving forward in the season.  The scoring was led by Lincoln Konrad, who managed 10 points.  Ian Larson and Tyler Jelinek were getting after the boards, collecting 8 apiece.

There was no JV game due to low participation at Burwell.
