West Holt High School and Atkinson Chamber of Commerce Host Career/Job Fair at West Holt

The West Holt 9th-12th grade students participated in a Career/Job Fair hosted by the Guidance Department and the Atkinson Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, November 2nd.  First, students attended breakout sessions presented by community members Jen Rystrom, Austin Hamm, Tammera Kunz, Pam Winer and Rebecca Logemann.  Topics of the sessions were Work Ethic, Workplace Communications, Resumes and Applications and Customer Service/Phone Skills. 


Next, students participated in a session where they did some self-discovery activities matching them with potential careers based on a personality and interest inventory. 


Finally, students were able to talk with community members who are currently working in a career that interests them.  Over 40 careers were represented in the fair. Some of the careers students were able to learn about were: Mental Health, Health Care, Banking, Funeral Services, Senior Care, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Graphic Design, Culinary Skills, Electrician, Construction, Ag Sales, Ag Equipment, Trucking-Feed Sales, Administrative Assistant, Veterinarian, Barista, Florist, Retail/Sales, Financial Advisor, Attorney, Law Enforcement, Childcare, Atkinson City Offices, Atkinson Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Community College, Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning, Hospitality Services, Radio/Communications, Ag Electrical, Travel Agent, Entrepreneurs, Ranch Management, Non-Profit Management and Marketing, and a Court Reporter.


“I feel like things went really well for our first year of doing this,” Teresa Ruppert, Career Fair Organizer said, “We are looking forward to growing and improving what we did this year. I want to thank all the community members, businesses, and organizations for coming out to participate and engage with the students of West Holt.”
