West Holt Holds "Alumni Day" to Generate Awareness About Future Planning for Students

Mrs. Ruppert

October 07, 2021

Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade were greeted with a different sight Wednesday, October 6th for an “Alumni Day”.  All teachers and staff displayed a pennant or poster from the school/schools they have a technical, associates, graduate, undergraduate, or any degree from.  Some teachers even brought their diplomas or other items from their college days to display.  They were also allowed to wear jeans and their respective college colors or clothing from their college. The purpose of the event was to generate conversations with students of all ages about life following high school.  Teachers had a chance to tell stories, share with students their experiences, thoughts, or things they wish they would have known, and the pros and cons of their experiences when they were in college.  Teachers fielded many different types of questions from students about anything from “Why GPA is important?” to “Would you attend the same college if you knew then, what you know now?”. Some staff and teachers have multiple pennants, students found out why.  It was a great way for students to hear about our staff/teachers and why it is important to get some sort of post-secondary training/education.  All sorts of training/degrees were promoted – not just 4-year degrees as all are important to make our world go around.

Students in grades 7-12 could fill out a trivia sheet to return to Mrs. Ruppert.  The first ones to turn in their completed sheets received prizes.  Some of the questions involved asking teachers questions, while others were questions about college mascots and post-secondary choices such as the military.

West Holt will hold the “Alumni Day” event annually.
