Husky Track and Field Sending 10 to State Meet

Coach Kraus

May 16, 2021

Last Thursday, West Holt hosted 9 other track and field teams for the C-5 District Track and Field Meet. As a coaching staff we knew as soon as the district assignments came out that we would have one of the toughest districts to qualify athletes for the State Meet in Omaha next Friday and Saturday, May 21st and 22nd, As it turns out, we were correct...36 additional qualifiers to the State Meet came from the C-5 district we hosted. In order for an athlete to qualify, they must place 1st in a relay event, or 1st or 2nd in an individual event. The next seven fastest relays across the state and the next six best marks in individual events across the state would also qualify for the state meet as additional qualifiers. Pole Vault and High Jump had automatic qualifying heights that athletes could attain as well.

Despite the wind, rain, and a lightning delay, our athletes competed well and set 30 personal records or season bests throughout the meet. As coaches we were pleased with the effort our kids gave to go out and perform to the best of their ability. Katelynn Kratz was West Holt's first qualifier of the day when she cleared 5-0 in the high jump to claim second place. Maddie Davis was up next as she placed 2nd in the 3200M run with a time of 12:47.41. Caid McCart was the first boy to reserve his spot to Omaha when he finished 2nd in the 100M in 11.38 seconds. After the rain delay, the West Holt boys 400M relay team of Aaron Kraus, Rumen Rentschler, Asher McCart, and Caid McCart edged out Battle Creek by 1 seconds to claim gold and qualify for the state meet. A few minutes later Asher McCart, Joseph Albrecht, Rumen Rentschler, and Aaron Kraus again edged out the Battle Creek team this time by .22 seconds to take first place in the 1600M relay.

Then the waiting began to see if we would claim any of those extra qualifying positions. When all results were finally submitted and confirmed, we had two more individual events qualified and one more relay. Kevona Brown in the 200M, Caid McCart in the 200M, and the girls 400M relay team of Addie Karo, Katelyn Kratz, Emilee Walnofer, and Kevona Brown all qualified for the State Meet.
