Husky Golfers NVC Champs

Coach Hale

May 03, 2021

The Huskies golf team added to their collection of NVC tournament championships last Tuesday at the Antelope CC in Neligh.  The boys earned their 7th NVC title in a row by edging the host, Neligh-Oakdale Warriors by 3-strokes.  After seeing the Neligh team at a couple previous tournaments, we felt that they would be the team to beat.  The Huskies prepared well with the time they had after the O’Neill Invite the previous week.  We have a good number of players, staying after practice and going to practice after they get home from tournaments.  Whenever you invest in yourself like that, it makes you a tough out.  It’s harder to just throw in the towel when you face adversity.

Individually, Cameron Adkisson and Jaxson Cadwallader led the way.  Cameron added his name to the list of NVC champion golfers from West Holt:  Cameron Schmuecker 2014, Alex Fritz 2015, Bryce Kerkman 2016, Mason Hale 2017-18 and Garrison Hansen 2019.  Jaxson also earned first team honors by being in the top 5 golfers.  Nathaniel Ketteler medaled coming out of the JV division and Luke Olson had a personal best score to medal also.

On Thursday, the Huskies traveled to O’Neill to join Stuart for a triangular. The teams played 9 holes at O’Neill CC. The Eagles outperformed the Huskies 179-186. The O’Neill JV shot 190 while our JV shot 225. Stuart varsity shot 226. Individually, Cameron Adkisson claimed medalist honors with a 40 and Jaxson Cadwallader shot 41. O’Neill took the next 4 spots with Stuart’s Anthony Heiser placing 7th with a 46. The rest of the scores for the Huskies were: Mason Mitchell & Weston Mathis 50, Nathaniel Ketteler 51, Channing Ogden 53, Bryce Steinkraus & Luke Olson 55, Jackson Butterfield 59, Grant Mlinar 65, Nolan Hoffman 66, Brody Deseive 68. It had been awhile since everyone had competed and the first road trip for a lot of the players, so it was good from an experience standpoint.

The Huskies hosted 12 schools Saturday for the West Holt Invitational.  The weather was payback for the winter-like conditions we’ve had most of the season.  The 63-player field enjoyed 80 degree temperatures and a ½ club breeze.  The Eagles and Huskies were tied after the first nine at 180, but the Eagles finished better than the Huskies.  We shot 183 to their 175 on the back nine.  The team score was still a season best for the Huskies and still encouraging because we knew we could have easily saved some of our strokes.  We spent too many around the greens and will work on saving those the next couple of weeks.  Individually, we medaled 4 players and had several personal bests.
