Cards Ends Husky's NVC Bid

After getting past the North Central Knights in the first round of NVC tournament, the #8 seeded Huskies fell to the #1 seeded, O’Neill St. Mary’s Cardinals. The Huskies prepared well for the game and that resulted in a good start against the Cards. We played at various tempos offensively. Fast break when our defense allowed and passed the ball well against the Card zone to get good shots and hit the boards with purpose. We hit 6/11 from 3 in the first half and accumulated 8 assists. We were in good shape going into half-time.

The Cards saw us struggle a bit against their man-to-man defense in the second quarter and they stuck with it in the second half. We didn’t adjust. We didn’t have an assist in the second half. That happens when a team doesn’t confidently execute. The guys still played well defensively, just didn’t get each other good looks and couldn’t score one on one. Considering the Cards averaged 65 ppg coming into the game, we know we can play defense, we just need to clean it up offensively.

The Cardinals continued on to win the NVC Championship. They won the semifinal over EPPJ, 62-47 and dominated the Elkhorn Valley Falcons in the championship, 67-24. The Neligh Warriors won the consolation game over EPPJ 53-50. Congratulations to all the teams that appeared in the final four.
