West Holt vs Neligh-Oakdale

Coach Ruppert

October 20, 2020

The West Holt varsity volleyball team opened up the Niobrara Valley Conference tournament at Ewing Monday evening vs the #7 seed Neligh/Oakdale. West Holt was seeded #10 and the winner would move on to play #2 seed, Summerland.

West Holt and N/O matched up well and it was a competitive “back and forth” game.  West Holt could not hold on and lost in 5 sets: 10-25, 16-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-8.  Leading scorers for WH were: Kamry Neptune with 11 points (3 ace serves), Lainey Smith with 9 points (5 ace serves), Maci Nemetz with 5 points, EmiLee Walnofer with 4 points and Lana Hooey with 3 points (1 ace serve).

“I am very proud of our ability to come back from a 2-0 Neligh-Oakdale lead and win the 3rd and 4th sets.  The girls as a team and never gave up.  We are very happy with how we played tonight.  We really felt like we should have beat them, but it wasn’t meant to be. Chances are good that we will meet in post-season play and we will be ready.“ said Coach Teresa Ruppert.

West Holt is now 5-19 on the season headed in to sub-district play on Monday, October 26th. They will likely play Neiligh-Oakdale again to begin sub-district play- most likely by one of the Summerland schools (Clearwater, Orchard, Ewing. The 5 teams in West Holt’s D1-5 Sub-District are: Summerland, Elkhorn Valley, Elgin Public/Elgin Pope John and Neligh-Oakdale.
