COVID Relief Means Free Lunches at West Holt

Mr. Pistulka

September 20, 2020

In mid-September West Holt Public Schools was informed that the federal lunch program would be extending the “free meals to all students” option which was available for the end of last school year.  Known as the summer food service program, this program will be offered to all students at West Holt Public Schools and will begin on October 1st, 2020.  This program will run until the end of December, 2020.

Much like what was offered from the middle of March through June, all students who eat at West Holt will receive their first, reimbursable lunch, for free.  Any second lunches or other items will still be at the cost of individual families.  However, the best part of this option now is that the students can eat at school and the district is not having to provide pick-up or delivery options.  Likewise, our local school district is provided reimbursement from the federal government, meaning this will not affect the property tax contributions in our school district to support this program.  This is a great option for all families to be able to take advantage of meals for their children to help combat some of the difficult economic times we have had due to COVID-19.

As stated earlier, this is available for all students.  As with other relief/stimulus programs provided by the federal government, all students qualify regardless of financial status.  If you are a family who currently has the financial ability to pay for school lunches, feel free to put the money you may regularly pay toward lunches for your children to another good cause in our community like your church, or other volunteer groups.  Even better yet, get out and spend that money in our local businesses in Atkinson to help continue to keep the businesses we have in town strong and thriving!  Thanks for all of your support for West Holt Public Schools!
