West Holt Lady Huskies Defeat Stuart Lady Broncos in 4

The West Holt JV and Varsity volleyball teams hosted the neighboring Stuart Lady Broncos on Tuesday evening beginning at 5 P M.

In the JV match, West Holt lost to Stuart in 2 sets: 16-25, 15-25. Scoring for the Huskies were: Kelcie Osborne with 2 points, Maci Nemetz with 1 points, Brittany Beckwith with 3 points, Cassie Neibauer with 5 points and Alexis Stracke with 2 points.

In Varsity action, West Holt came out and put together a great effort against a tough Stuart team.  In the Lady Huskie’s last home game of the season they won in 4 sets: 25-23, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-22.

“I am very proud of this team tonight.  We put together a complete game, something we have been unable to do very often.  The girls trusted each other, played as a team, worked hard and finished.  Stuart is a good team and it was a fun game to be a part of. ” Said Husky coach Teresa Ruppert.

Leading behind the serving line in the effort were: Lindsey Jelinek with 11 points (3 aces), Jaden Mathis with 10 points (2 aces), Libby Wells with 9 points (1 ace), EmiLee Walnofer with 5 points, Kamry Neptune with 3 points (1 ace) and Brandi Heller also with 3 points (1 ace).

The Lady Huskies were digging machines and dug up a whopping 96 digs. “Our libero, Libby Wells, did an outstanding job for us in the back row.  She was right where we needed her to be.  She ended up with 23 digs. Kamry Neptune also dug up 23 balls, while EmiLee Walnofer had 22 digs. We had 5 players in double digits digging.  We preach ‘relentless pursuit’ and they demonstrated that tonight.  Brandi had 12 digs and Jaden had 14.  We are very happy with those numbers.”

The West Holt hitters also had a good night putting up some impressing stats.  Leading the way was Freshman, EmiLee Walnofer with 16 and Brandi Heller with 12.

“Jaden Mathis (sophomore setter) did a great job tonight moving the ball and utilizing our hitters, she was smart with who she went to.  Our hitters also played very smart volleyball and did a nice job with their shot selection.”

While West Holt’s record is at 5-17, they proved they came to play.

“I was very happy with Lindsey Jelinek’s play at the net as well as behind the serving line.  Her stats do not show how important she was in the outcome of this game. She stepped up her game tonight.”

The Lady Huskies improve to 5-17 on the season.
