Stenka Takes 20th at Class C State Tournamnet

October 14-15, 2019 –

Day 1 of the state tournament had some of the best weather in the last four years, and players took advantage of the weather. There were 94 golfers who qualified for the class C state tournament which took place in North Platte at Lake Maloney Golf Course.

Lydia shot a front nine of 44 and came back with a 47 to tie her career low of 91 for the third time. After 18 holes of play, Lydia Stenka was tied for 14th with a 91. There were more than 25 players with scores between 78 and 96. It was a tight race between 8th place and 20th place with the spread only being four strokes. Leading the tournament after Day 1 was Abby Brodersen of Boone Central and Payton Wise of Kimball who were tied with 78.

On Day 2, the weather played a bigger factor. With gusts up to 40 miles per hour on the back nine, the golfers had to manage their nerves and handle the large gusts. Stenka started out on the front nine with a 46 and finished with a 50 on the back nine. Her final two-day score of 187 put her in a tie for 20th. Stenka missed the medal position by six strokes.
