Friday Night Lights BBQ! set for September 27th

Coach Nemetz

September 11, 2019

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS BBQ - September 27th from 6-8 pm @ West Holt Game Field

Burgers/Hot Dogs/Chips/Water - Free Will Offering - Proceeds go to the 2020 D.C. Experience

Since the beginning of August, Atkinson West Holt students in grades 3-6 have been participating in Flag Football.  September 27th will be our 14th night of practice/games so we would like to celebrate the conclusion with a football BBQ for all 3-12 football players and families, come watch as they perform football skills and play Flag Football.

Since our little kids camp in early August these young Huskies have been working on the following fundamentals of football;  throwing, catching, handoffs, tackling, kicking, punting, pro agility, 3 cone drill, 10 and 40 yard dash, stances, o-line first steps, West Holt route running, and of course FUN.

The “fun” is the game portion of the program.  We organize every practice to have 45 minutes of fundamental work and then 45 minutes of flag football.  We have had good numbers, anywhere from 33-42 on a given practice, so the kids have been able to play against kids their own age, which is a plus.  We allow the 5-6th grade to combine on teams, but the 4th we are able to split into 2 teams and the third grade as well.   The goal in the flag portion is not only fun but also to have kids play different positions.  With only 4 playing at one time, it allows for everyone to get a chance to run the ball, snap the ball, throw the ball or catch the ball.  We really feel like this will develop our overall 3-12 program better.

For those young Huskies who are 2nd grade and under we encourage you to continue to play in the yard or at the park.  Grab any family member or neighbor you can and go throw the ball around in the evenings. We are encouraged that young kids want to play but we are committed to 3-12 development.

We would also like to thank the following individuals for continuing to help officiate and coach during our practices;  Coach Neptune, Coach Osborne, Coach Kramer, Coach Frickel and all of our 9-12 football players.  Also thanks to following for their past and current help, Coach Hooey, Coach Konrad, Coach Davis and many others who have contributed to the development of our youth!  If you would like to volunteer in the future contact Coach Neptune or Coach Nemetz.

Lastly, we would like to thank all parents/guardians who have continued to get their sons to practice and we will see you on September 27th for our skills testing and games.  Skill Testing 6-7 and games 7-8.  Come support the young men under the lights!
