West Holt Volleyball Triangular with Burwell and North Central

The West Holt Lady Huskies hosted a triangular with Burwell and North Central Thursday evening.  The JV and Varsity both had matches simultaneously vs the Lady Longhorns of Burwell beginning at 5 PM.  In junior varsity action, West Holt was not able to hold on to the opening set win and eventually lost to Burwell in 3 sets: 25-22, 17-25 and 9-15. Maci Nemetz led the Lady Huskies with 8 points, while Kelcie Osborne added 6, Cassie Neibauer served up 4, Courtney Kellner added 3 and Autumn Hoppe scored 1. 


In varsity action, the Lady Huskies posted their first win of the season beating the Lady Longhorns 21-25, 25-13 and 25-18.  Leading scorers for West Holt were: Lindsey Jelinek with 13 points (1 ace) and Courtney Poessnecker with 13 points (5 aces).  Jaden Mathis chipped in 6 points (2 aces), EmiLee Walnofer added 5 points (2 aces) and Brandi Heller also had 5 points and 2 ace serves. 


Coach Teresa Ruppert had this to say about the win: “Our serving game caused Burwell a lot of problems and I felt like our decision making was really good.  I am very happy with how we established a level of play and stuck with it.”

In game 2 of the triangular Burwell beat North Central in two sets: 25-16, 26-24.


Game 3 of the evening for both jv and varsity was against North Central.  The JV match was a good one, West Holt came out and played a tough first set winning 27-25 but couldn’t hold on and lost the next two 21-25 and 8-15.  Top servers for West Holt were: Kelcie Osborne with 9 points, Cassie Neibauer with 6, Brittany Beckwith and Maci Nemetz with 4 and Courtney Kellner with 1.


West Holt varsity squad took on North Central in a packed gym losing in set one 15-25.  They fought back in set two winning 25-23 but couldn’t get going in the third, losing 25-16.


“Our serving was not as consistent against North Central and our decision making was not as solid.  We were never able to establish “our game” like we did during the Burwell game.  We are on the right track. “  said head coach, Teresa Ruppert.


Brandi Heller and Jaden Mathis each served up 8 points, while Mykenzie Daugherty had 4, EmiLee Walnofer had 3 and Kamry Neptune had 1.
