Stenka Qualifies for State Golf Tournament

Coach Kuchar

October 02, 2018

On a cold and dreary day at Norfolk Country Club, thirteen teams competed for the class C-3 districts full of anticipation and excitement to continue their seasons another week. The day started rainy, but by tee times the rains stopped and play began without precipitation.

There were five districts for class C across the state yesterday. In order to qualify for state, a team can make it by placing in the top three at their assigned districts and individuals can also make it by placing in the top ten.

West Holt took 4th place, 24 stokes out of third place. The C-3 District title was won by Battle Creek. Norfolk Catholic and Hartington CC had to play extra holes to determine the C-3 runner-up, but after one hole of a team playoff the Lady Knights won.  There was also a three-way tie for first to determine the district medalist. Anna Kassmeier of Norfolk Catholic won the playoff for medalist honors with an 89.

Junior Lydia Stenka of West Holt shot a 106, which put her in a tie for 9th place and automatically qualified her for the State Tournament next week in North Platte. She would lose the handicap hole and take the 10th place medal. Lydia will play October 8th and 9th at Rivers Edge Golf Course. Her scores can be followed live on the NSAA girls golf website during the tournament
