Golfers Win Highway 20 & Valentine Invite
May 16, 2018
The West Holt Huskies wrapped up the regular season with a couple of victories. On Monday, the Huskies were able to edge Valentine by the narrowest of margins to claim the Highway 20 Invite championship at Bassett CC. We had finished runner-up at the is tournament the past 2 years and the players were excited to get over the hump this year and take home 1st place.
Individually, the Huskies were led by Blake Hilkemeier. Blake tied for first place with a 41-41-82. Cole Gaughenbaugh of O’Neill was able to win the playoff to take the gold medal and Blake took home silver. Max Roberts earned his second medal of the year by placing in a tie for 7th. The Huskies didn’t have any other medalists, but freshman Jaxson Cadwallader and Cameron Adkisson carded 90’s to tie for 17th which was close. Jaegher Ogden rounded out the team by placing tied for 26th in the 49 golfer field.

Thursday, the varsity and JV competed in the Valentine Invite held at the new Fredrick’s Peak golf course in Valentine. It’s a different kind of golf than we are used to, so it took 9-holes to adjust, but the guys played well on the back nine and secured the victory. The varsity took too many penalty strokes on the first nine, but cleaned up their act on the 2nd nine. The JV actually would have been 3rd place if all scores were compared.
Individually, Mason Hale shot 37-37-74 to win gold. Team-mate Bryce Kerkman, battled through a touch of stomach flu to shoot 43-37-80 to take silver. Austin Wenner and Devon Dohrman shot 87’s to place in a tie for 5th. Garrison Hansen moved up the leaderboard by shooting 40 on the back nine to finish 11th. In the JV division, Blake won with an 87 and Max shot 92 to place third. Cameron, Jaegher and Jaxson were 6th, 7th and 8th respectively. Brandon Jelinek placed 12th.
