Oct 5th, 2017   Welcome to the new school year.  Parents are always encouraged to come in or call with questions.  If need be, give me a call in the evening at home; if I’m not there my wife, Colleen, will take a message and I’ll call back.

Two videos every parent and junior/senior should watch.........
Video 1 The Four Year Plan to Avoid (Funny but painful)
Video 2  Guiding Your Child to Career Success  (Sending our students in the right direction)

The Nebraska Dept. of Education has a website parents can acess and view helpful tips for preparing their student for life after high school.

Scholarships - Go to top left corner to "Local Scholarships" to see what is available.  If a scholarship says open, it means I have received the new application, if not, updated materials are still pending, as scholarship committees need time to update their applications.  Seniors also can go to EducationQuest.org , then to ScholarshipQuest , which contains over 2000 Nebraska scholarships.

EducationQuest Foundation is a Nebraska nonprofit organization with a mission to improve access to higher education.  Headquartered in Lincoln, EducationQuest provides students and families help in the following resourses:
*Activities Resume tracks your extracurricular activities, honors, and awards.
*ScholarshipQuest contains over 2,000 local and state scholarships.

*College Profiles has information about colleges in Nebraska and nationwide.
*Countdown2College provides monthly college planning tips.
*FAFSA Tools provides resources to help you complete the FAFSA.
*Reality Check matches future lifestyles with career choices.
*Videos will walk you through the financial aid process.

The ACT Test website  Use the link www.actstudent.org/start to view ACT dates and registration deadlines.  Students can take the ACT at West Holt on the Dec and April test dates.  Oneill will host the Oct, Feb, and June dates.  Students can take the ACT as many times as they wish; colleges make their decisions off the top scores.  See the John Baylor information for help in preparing for the ACT.  If a student is on the free/reduced lunch program, they can receive a waiver to cover the cost of the ACT.  See the guidance office for information.

John Baylor ACT Test Prep  Go to www.JohnBaylorTestPrep.com to preview the best ACT Prep on the market today.  West Holt covers the cost of registration and provides a study manuel to go with the online videos.  Any student who wants to increase their chances of getting into the school of their choice and more scholarship help should take the time to go through the twelve 45 minute videos.  Contact Mr. Thiele for your user name and password.  The best results will come from following the three week schedule leading up to the ACT test date.
