Stenka Returns to State Golf

Coach Kuchas

October 07, 2019

October 7, 2019

Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk hosted C-3 golf districts that included thirteen area schools. The day turned out to be a beautiful and sunny day with some wind on the second nine, but most importantly did not involve rain.

The top three teams and top ten individuals earn their way to state, which will be hosted at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte next week on October 14th and 15th. It is a 36-hole tournament. The battle for C-3 district team champion was separated by a mere four strokes. Battle Creek won district honors with a 397. District runner-up went to Norfolk Catholic with a 401 and third place to Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic. West Holt came in 4th place just eighteen strokes out of third.

The top groupings got off to a slow start on the front nine and there was not much separation in the individual race. After nine holes, Lydia Stenka and Sydney Erickson of Pierce were tied at first with 45. These two battled back and forth on the back nine and Sydney Erickson pulled away with an 86 to be the district champion. Lydia Stenka was the C-3 district runner-up and earned her way to state. Lydia Stenka qualified for state last season and is looking to come back with a higher finish this season. In 2018, she tied for 48th. She will have the experience to build on from last season.

Individually, West Holt has three other individuals compete. Junior Jordyn Laible shot a 106 to earn 17th place. Sophomore Landyn Mlady shot a 117 to earn 28th and senior Hannah Brotsky shot a 118 to earn 29th.
