Another Busy Week for JV Boys

by Coach Ludwig

January 22, 2018

Th JV squeaked by Plainview in a two-quarter road game on Tuesday.  While we did play fairly well defensively and showed strength on the boards, we turned the ball over more than we would have liked to and shot only 30% from the field, which kept the game close.  After getting out to a 14-10 lead at the end of one, we had to fend off a Pirate charge in the second, and after missing the front end of a couple one-and-one opportunities, we finally converted two free throws to seal the 23-22 win.

In a rematch of last week's 47-44 win at Boyd County, the Husky JV played better defensively, holding the Spartans to 30 points and earning an 11-point 41-30 win.  After a cold-shooting night at Plainview on Tuesday, we hit a much higher percentage from the floor against BC, especially from 2-point range (57%).  Overall, our scoring was very balanced with 8 different players tossing in points, but no one scoring more than 9.  And, after several games of low percentage shooting from the free throw line, we hit 12 of 19 from the stripe for 63%, which helped us overcome a 24-30 third-quarter deficit and build separation from the Spartans in the fourth.

On Saturday, the "C" team traveled to Creighton for a morning game against the Bulldogs.  The first half was played very close, and at the break, the score stood 13-13.  After half-time, the Huskies stepped onto the floor with renewed energy and used tough, hustle defense and solid rebounding on both ends of the floor to outscore Creighton 11-6 and take a 24-19 lead.  In the fourth quarter, both teams played hard, scrambling after loose balls and crashing the boards, but we were able to outscore the Bulldogs 7-6 and come away with the 31-25 win.  Next up for the JV will be an away game at Neligh-Oakdale on Tuesday and home game with O'Neill on Thursday.
