JV Boys Win 2

On Tuesday night, the young Huskies started the game with full-court pressure defense to set the tone in a 43-28 two-quarter home victory over CWC.  By forcing 14 Renegade turnovers and taking away 8 steals, we created scoring opportunities for our transition offense that both our guards and our big men running the floor were able to capitalize upon.  For the night, we shot 66% from the floor and dished out 9 assists.  We also showed improvement at the free throw line, hitting 4 of 7 attempts for 57%, our highest of the season.  However, we need to keep improving and working toward our 70% FT goal.

Next up for the Huskies was a road game at Battle Creek on Saturday.  After a very slow start, both offensively and defensively, we trailed the Braves 12-3 at the end of the first quarter and had to work hard to erase the deficit and pull even at 24-24 at halftime. In the second half, our communication and intensity on defense was better, and this sparked our offense as well. We won more 50-50 balls, got some timely steals, and converted fast break points to outscore Battle Creek 10-4 in the third quarter and take a 34-28 lead going into the fourth.   To end the game, we continued feeding off of our defensive energy to extend the lead and eventually earn a hard-fought 49-35 win.  After getting down early, the coaches were proud of how the team found a way to overcome adversity and put themselves in a position to win.  Battle Creek was a physical opponent that challenged us for all 32 minutes, so this was a good learning experience that we can build on in games to come.
