BOYS BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach Hale

December 06, 2017

The West Holt Huskies opened practice on November 13 with 24 boys participating.  The Seniors are Shayden Neptune, Bryce Kerkman, Mason Hale, Devon Dohrman, Payton Williams, Blake Hilkemeier, Brandon Jelinek and Dylan Wieneke.  The Juniors are Jordan Tasler, Kooper Jelinek and Austin Wenner.  The Sophomores are Garrison Hansen, Logan Wieneke, Joseph Seger, Max Roberts and Chase Garrett.  The Freshmen are Aaron Kraus, Joseph Albrecht, Tyler Larby, Jaxson Cadwallader, Nathaniel Ketteler, Matt Pardun, Cameron Adkisson and Rumen Rentschler.

The team got together the day after losing to Neligh-Oakdale in the sub-district final last spring to set this year’s goals.  We agreed that to accomplish our team goals for this year that some investment in the off-season would be part of the process.  Most of the boys were running cross-country or playing football in the fall, so we came into the first week in pretty good condition.  We had a good summer by participating in the local summer league, the Top Ten team camp at Riverside, the Wayne State team camp and hosted Warwick Workouts at West Holt.  We also had a couple guys playing in the region on AAU teams.  In addition, we had good participation in the weight-room.  This group invested in the off-season, and we will see if that helps our early season performance.

We have moved from class C-2 to D-1 because of enrollment numbers.  This presents some new opportunities and challenges.  We can earn more power points in the wild-card rankings with our existing schedule, but need to have a good start as we play most of our bigger schools prior to Christmas.  We will also be tracking different schools we will be seeing in the postseason.  It should be an exciting challenge for the team.

At this point, we have a good group of guys that have the opportunity to write this year’s basketball story.  With the right attitude and effort, we hope to write a good one.
