Capital Forum

Mr. Nemetz

April 05, 2017

Five seniors attended Capitol Forum on Monday March 27th.  The program is sponsored by Humanities Nebraska and the Secretary of States office.  The five students all got a chance to debate and deliberate the following global issues:  terrorism, immigration, international trade, nuclear proliferation and climate change.  Throughout the rest of the day, they were opened up to different perspectives from students and staff from around the state.  There are currently 20+ schools participating in the program from all parts of the state, both big and small.  To finish the day, the students were given their chance to ask questions via teleconference of their elected officials.  Those participating were, Senator Fischer, Congressman Smith, Fortenberry and Bacon, Senator Sasse was unable to attend.  This is a unique experience and I thank the five seniors for representing West Holt and North Central Nebraska in a positive manner.

L to R - Eddie Fredrick, Emma Laible, Jake Judge, Anna Meyer, Chase Harrison.
