Caitlin Nelson Participates in the American Legion Oratorical Contest

By Mr. Nemetz

December 11, 2015

For 79 years the American Legion has sponsored the Oratorical Contest in the United States.  Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in the program.  This year West Holt had one person compete for the available scholarships at the school, district, area, state and national levels.

Over the past two months Caitlin Nelson has written about and studied the U.S. Constitution.  She crafted an oratorical that centered around a change in the Electoral Process.  She also had to actively research and prepare for the second part of the program; the extemporaneous part.

While I would like to tell you that Caitlin is moving on to the state competition in January as one of the four area winners, she will not be, as she came up just short last weekend in Albion at the Area contest.  Caitlin was second, after winning the Local and District Levels in the past month.   Congratulations to Caitlin for her extra work and dedication.
