West Holt FFA WIns State Range Judging

West Holt FFA Range Judging teams traveled to Curtis on September 25th for the 2014 State Range Judging Contest. West Holt competed in both the Junior (freshmen and sophomores) and Senior (juniors and seniors) Divisions. The event asked students to  identify and classify range plants, evaluate range sites, determine stocking rate, and make range management decisions. Evan Laible earned individual State Champion honors and lead West Holt to a team championship in the Senior Division.

The Senior Division included 176 competitors on 43 teams. West Holt’s team of Evan Laible (1st individual), Paige Mitchell (5th individual), Kyle Linders, and Riley Bilstein finished as the State Champion team. Finishing 16th was the team of Troy Childress, Jacob Tasler, Kassidy Jelinek, and Aaron Seger. The team of Jessie Mohnsen, Courteney Hostert, and Taylor Deseive finished 24th. Individual ribbon winners in the Senior Division were Evan Laible, Paige Mitchell, Courteney Hostert, and Jacob Tasler.

The Junior Division included 206 individuals and 50 teams. Jake Judge, Mason Hale, Seth Hytrek, and Seth Wentworth made up the 6th place team. Coming in 7th in the team race was Brandon Jelinek, Jenae Osborne, and Brea Hostert. The team of Bailey Kraus, Breydon Mlady, Colby Deseive, and Brent Lemmer finished 14th. Placing 20th was the team of Caitlin Butterfield, Emma Laible, and Will Thiele. Individual ribbon winners in the Junior Division were Jake Judge, Brent Lemmer, Jenae Osborne, Brea Hostert, Brandon Jelinek, Seth Wentworth, and Colby Deseive. West Holt FFA Advisor David Gibbens placed 2nd in the Professional Division.
